Do You Need Homeowners Insurance?

How and Why to Get Homeowners Insurance

If you are thinking of buying a house in the Sedona area for the first time, there are a lot of details that come along with it, as with buying a home anywhere. Some people debate whether or not you need homeowners insurance, the honest answer is yes, you will need homeowners insurance. If you have been a renter in the past and bought renters insurance then this won't be such new a concept to you. But if you haven't, then here are some tips to help you through the process.

Get A Quote
Once you have found a home, contact an insurance company to receive quotes on insuring your home. Ask your real estate agent about the best insurance companies in your area. They will need to know certain information about the home such as size and distance to fire hydrants. These should be fairly easy to answer.

Ask Questions
On the flip side, you will also want to know certain things from them too.

  • What exactly do they cover?
  • Do they cover foreign and domestic issues?
  • How much a month do they charge?
  • What is my deductible?
  • What is NOT covered?

These are issues you will want to be well aware of before you sign. And shop around. It pays to get the best deal that covers the most. Also, ask your agent if the home you are buying is required to have special insurance such as flood or earthquake.
